Finance Calendar API Changelog

This page lists every change to the Finance Calendar API since launch, newest first. Field names from v1 are never removed; new versions add fields, endpoints and formats.

The current version is reported in the X-FC-API-Version response header and in the /status endpoint. The API documentation always describes the current version. For changes to the data itself (moved dates, new consensus, actual prints) use the /changes endpoint rather than this page.

v2.0, 19 October 2026

The API is now served from an hourly snapshot built by the calendar engine directly from official calendars, with live consensus, prior and actual figures overlaid from event pages. Every row gained a stable id and a series_code.

  • Series codes. Every series has a stable code (us-cpi, fomc, gb-jobs) and a set of aliases. Codes are never renamed.
  • New endpoints: /series (every series with its next date), /series/{code} (next, last, upcoming, history and a verified long-run dataset where published), /history (past prints with consensus, prior and actual), /changes (30-day field-level change log), /market-status for 12 exchanges with session hours, lunch breaks and early closes, /countries, /status and /openapi.
  • New filters on /calendar: series, status, include=holidays, tz (adds time_local), offset for paging, and total in every list response.
  • New fields on every row: id, series_code, series_name, release_at_utc, release_tz, period, status, unit, source_url, source_name, holiday_status, close_time_local, updated_at, plus starts_on and note where relevant.
  • ICS. format=ics on /calendar and /week returns a calendar subscription.
  • /holidays now covers 12 exchanges (exchange= nyse, sifma, cme, lse, tsx, asx, hkex, euronext, jpx, six, xetra, nse or all) with status and close_time_local for early closes.
  • /week added: Monday to Sunday for this week or which=next.
  • Free API keys. POST /keys and GET /keys/me. Keyless calls are limited to 2,000 a day per IP address; a free key allows 10,000. Rate limit headers on every response. See the key page.
  • Widget. A drop-in economic calendar widget served from /widget.
  • MCP server 0.2. The financecalendar-mcp package grew from 4 tools to 11, plus a briefing prompt and the OpenAPI spec as a resource. The CLI gained series, show, history, status, changes and countries commands. See the MCP page.
  • Python client. pip install financecalendar.
  • Full dataset download at calendar.json, refreshed hourly, mirrored in the public repository.
  • Response headers now include Link (docs and OpenAPI), X-Attribution and X-FC-API-Version.

v1.1, 19 October 2026

  • Holiday rows moved out of /calendar and /today into the market-holidays category. They are now opt-in with category=market-holidays or include=holidays, so a default calendar call returns economic rows only.
  • No more truncated values: consensus, prior and actual are returned in full.
  • Country-aware /next: generic series such as cpi return the US release by default; ?country=uk or a prefix such as uk-cpi selects another country.
  • country on every row.
  • Invalid parameters return HTTP 400 with an error message instead of silently falling back to defaults.
  • 5-minute transient cache and public Cache-Control headers.

v1.0, 31 August 2026

  • Launch with 4 endpoints: /calendar (date range with impact, category, limit and format=csv), /next (next occurrence of a series by keyword), /holidays (NYSE and Nasdaq holidays by year) and /today (today’s releases with live NYSE status).
  • Free with attribution, CORS open, no key.
  • MCP server and CLI published as financecalendar-mcp 0.1 with 4 tools.

Compatibility

Fields that existed in v1 (date, time_utc, time_et, all_day, name, title, impact, category, consensus, prior, actual, url, exchange) keep their names and meanings in v2. Clients that ignore unknown fields need no changes. The one behavioural change was in v1.1: holiday rows no longer appear in /calendar unless requested.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know which version I am talking to?

Read the X-FC-API-Version header on any response, or call /status, which returns api_version along with the snapshot age and counts.

Will the base URL change?

The live base URL is https://www.financecalendar.com/wp-json/fc/v1. If a shorter host is added later, this URL will keep working.

Where are data corrections logged?

In /changes, which records every added, updated and removed row for the last 30 days with the field, old value and new value. The repository commit history is the longer audit trail.

How do I report a wrong date?

Open an issue on the repository or use the about page. Tell us the official source and we will correct the series.
